A Trailblazer from the Start


Rosalind Brewer’s rise to the top is marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Brewer's early life was shaped by the values of hard work and education instilled by her parents. She graduated from Spelman College, a historically Black liberal arts college for women, with a degree in chemistry. This solid educational foundation was just the beginning of her illustrious career.


Breaking Barriers in Corporate America


Brewer's career trajectory is nothing short of remarkable. She started her professional journey at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, where she spent over two decades climbing the ranks. Her tenure at Kimberly-Clark was a precursor to even greater achievements. In 2006, she joined Walmart, where she eventually became the President and CEO of Sam's Club, making her the first African American to lead a Walmart division.

In 2017, Brewer joined Starbucks as Chief Operating Officer and Group President, bringing her wealth of experience to the coffee giant. Her leadership was instrumental in driving growth and fostering a culture of inclusion and diversity. She spearheaded initiatives that not only enhanced business performance but also emphasized the importance of community engagement and social responsibility.


Leading with Resilience at Walgreens


In March 2021, Brewer took on her most significant role yet as the CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, making history as the only Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company at the time. Her appointment was a landmark moment, highlighting her as a pioneering force in corporate leadership. At Walgreens, Brewer faced the enormous challenge of steering the company through the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that communities had access to essential health services and vaccinations.

Her ability to lead with empathy, strategic vision, and a focus on innovation has been crucial in driving Walgreens forward.
